First TRR33 Winter school

Passo del Tonale (Italy) 2-8 December 2007

The winter school took place December 2-8, 2007.

  • Theory: Numerical simulations, Dr. Klaus Dolag (MPA Garching)

  • Virtual Observatory: Observational and Theoretical data, Patrizia Manzato (INAF Trieste)

The aim of the school

The school is intended to stimulate the communication between the different branches of the collaboration and to start building a common knowledge. To do so, the lectures will be driven by the concept: "Theory for observers & Observations for theorists" as decided at the past Munich workshop.

  • 24 hours of lectures + ~2 hours of discussion
  • An (slightly) alternative schedule has been suggested during the discussion

  • 3 Single rooms: 41E/day (B&B), 46E /day (half board), 51E/day (full board)
  • 18 Double rooms: 33E/day (B&B), 38E/day (half board), 43E/day (full board)
  • 7 Triple rooms: 33E/day (B&B), 38E/day (half board), 43E/day (full board)

  • Lunch packet (2 sandwiches, 1 fruit, 1/2l mineral water and 1 snack) 5E

  • Social dinner on Friday

Funding

For TRR-33 people:

  • The TRR-33 will cover all travel expenses including hotels and the subscription fee, through the normal TRR33 travel funding of your group.
  • TRR-33 will NOT cover the Food&Beverage expenses (outside the hotel) because of the DFG regulations. The only chance to account for these expenses is through your local institute (University) funds. Ask your PI!

For TRR-33 collaborators:

  • You can not have any TRR-33 money. The only chance to account for other expenses is through your local institute funds. Ask your PI!

Travel information

Please book the flight asap, it is getting more and more expensive!

  • Train Munich-Trento (4.30 h), price: about 70E, see info
  • Sometime there are offers for Munich-Verona or Munich-Venezia for 29-39E (Trento is on the way...)
  • Depending on the number of people, a bus can be rent for the connection Trento train station-Hotel

By car:

  • Both from south or north, take the Statale 12 del Brennero or Highway A22 until San Michele all´Adige.
  • From there (80 km to Passo del Tonale) take SS 43 and then SS 42 direction Passo del Tonale;
  • From east/west: take the highway Milano-Venezia until Ospitaletto.
  • Then follow Lago d'Iseo - Valle Camonica;
Or
  • In alternative highway Milano-Venezia until Seriate direction SS 42, follow Lovere - Valle Camonica.

By plane:

  • The 'suggested solutions' are strongly suggested so that we can organize a comfortable transfer via bus, but in any case the nearest airports are

  • Orio al Serio, Milano-Bergamo, about 130 km from Tonale;
  • Montichiari (Bs), about 140 km from Tonale;
  • Milano Linate, about 200 km from Tonale;
  • Valerio Catullo, Verona, about 250 km from Tonale,
  • Marco Polo Venezia about 325 km from Tonale;
